Saint Gertrude the Great,                              The 13th Century

One night, as Gertrude kept vigil, and was occupied with the remembrance of the Lord's Passion, feeling much fatigued, although she had not yet recited Matins, she said to God: "Ah, my Lord!  since Thou knowest that my weakness requires rest, teach me what honor and what service I can render to Thy Blessed Mother, now that it is not in my power to recite her Office".

"Glorify Me through My loving Heart", replied the Lord, "for the innocence of that spotless virginity in which My Mother, being a virgin, conceived Me; and, being a virgin, brought Me forth;  and after childbirth, still remained a pure and spotless virgin; thus imitating My innocence when I was taken at the hour of Matins for the redemption of the human race, and was bound, struck with rods, buffeted and pitilessly overwhelmed with every kind of misery and opprobrium."

While Gertrude did this, it appeared to her that the Lord presented His Divine Heart to the most holy Virgin His Mother, under the figure of a golden chalice, that she might drink from it; and that, being satiated with this sweet beverage, - or rather abundantly inebriated thereby, - her very soul might be filled with exceeding gladness.

Cor Jesu, in sinu Virginis Matris a Spiritu Sancto formatum,  miserere nobis.

RIVELAZIONE DEL SACRO CUORE
Alla Tua Beatissima Madre



Santa Gertrude la Grande,  Secolo XIII

Una volta, dopo aver trascorso buona parte della notte ricordando con amore e dolore la Passione del Signore, si sentì molto spossata, e non avendo ancora recitato il Mattutino, disse al Signore: "Ah, mio Dio, tu vedi che la mia umana fragilità non permette di fare ora a meno di un po' di riposo.  Dimmi dunque quale ossequio potrei prestare all tua beatissima Madre in compenso delle Ore canoniche che avrei dovuto recitare in sua lode".

"Lodami all'Ora di Mattutino, rispose il Signore, in unione col mio stesso dolcissimo Cuore per l'intemerata verginità di Colei che, vergine mi concepì, vergine mi diede alla luce, e vergine rimase dopo il parto.  Lodami per quella sua innocenza con cui ella ha imitato la mia innocenza, che, nell'ora appunto che corrisponde a Mattutino, mi son lasciato arrestare per la redenzione dell' umanità, per essere poi legato, schiaffeggiato, colpito senza pietà, colmato di oltraggi e di obbrobrii."


     Ora, mentre in tal modo Gertrude lodava il Signore, vide che egli presentava il suo Cuore divino sotto forma di un aureo calice alla sua vergine Madre.  La Vergine bevve a larghi sorsi questa bevanda piu dolce del miele e sembrò esserne come inebriata e penetrata di soavità fin nell'intimo dell'anima.
