Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Psalm 51:12-13, 14-15, 18-19
A reflection on today's Scripture:
Our lives are full of choices!
Free will is a wonderful gift from God, but leaves us with responsibilities and challenges. Through our Baptism we are a royal people, a chosen people and have been invited by God to the eternal wedding feast, but if we choose to go, we must be prepared.
Most of us are pleased to receive an invitation to a wedding. It is a chance to witness the exchange of vows between the couple and to celebrate with family and friends. The gospel today reminds us of our ongoing invitation to the eternal wedding banquet.
Just as with an earthly wedding, where we take special care that we are dressed appropriately, we must do so for the eternal wedding feast. We have the daily challenge of keeping our souls dressed for the Groom. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a wonderful opportunity to keep ourselves ready for the wedding feast, for we never know when the Groom will call for us.
