Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

July 22 A..D. 2010

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Jeremiah 2:1-3, 7-8, 12-13
Psalm 36:6-7ab, 8-9, 10-11
John 20:1-2, 11-18

A reflection on today's Scripture:

Human names are very significant. There are numerous accounts to point this up in scripture. The naming of St. John the Baptist is one that comes to mind. We also read in scripture that names have been changed to depict role changes or conversions in a person such as those of St. Peter and St. Paul. Throughout history, prospective parents have given much consideration to the name they choose for their child, for they will be known for all eternity by that name. Imagine Christ calling us by name!

Such was the case of Mary in the garden after the resurrection of Christ. She saw Him but did not recognize Him until He called her by name. In our daily lives, if we take the time and interest to greet another by their name, often a bond happens or is reinforced. We are reaching out with interest as did Christ. We are seeing and accepting that person as they are, as would Christ.

O Lord, help me to seek and find you in all those I meet today.
