Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
May 12 A..D. 2010
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Acts 17:15, 22-18:1
Psalm 148:1-2, 11-12, 13, 14
A reflection on today's Scripture:
A few years ago there was a situation at my work where an employee had accessed the very confidential and highly sensitive personal records of the senior managers of the company. When asked why she had done this, which was not only a violation of company policy, but a violation of the law as well, she simply stated that she had a right to know any and all sensitive information about the company leaders.
Since this episode I have found myself amazed at the strange moral thinking we seem to have in our culture. It seems anyone can rationalize anything these days.
In today's gospel reading Jesus speaks of the Spirit of Truth and how the Spirit will guide us to the truth. It cannot be more clear from this that there is a truth and that we can know it if we listen to the spirit. Given this, there is no way that we, as Christians, can get caught up in the moral relativism of the day and deny the truth. The bottom line is that God has set universal truths and we are called to know them and follow them with the help of the Holy Spirit.
