Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Psalm 87:1b-3, 4-5, 6-7
A reflection on today's Scripture:
Have you ever held something tightly because you were afraid someone was going to steal it from you? For women it often is a pocketbook that we carry in a particular way so as to discourage a thief from snatching it.
In today's Gospel we are told that we have been given to Jesus by the Father and no one can take us out of His hand and finally that He and His Father are one.
We shall not be snatched away from them like a thief snatches a pocketbook!
Now if snatching us away from God is out of the question, how is it then that sometimes we get lost and find ourselves outside of God's loving and protecting hand? Even the lying and thieving Devil cannot pull us from God's hand or trick Him into letting us go.
It is, as we know, our own free will that causes God to reluctantly release His hold, for He will not keep us against our will. So then, let us not demand that God release us, for it is His desire that none be lost. What is it you desire, to be lost or to be saved?
