Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

April 15 A..D. 2010

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Acts 5:27-33
Psalm 34:2 and 9, 17-18, 19-20
John 3:31-36

A reflection on today's Scripture:

Great preparations were made in our church buildings as we anticipated Easter. Out came the cleaners, floor polishers and dusters. Once that was done, the churches were decorated with beautiful spring flowers. Easter Day saw packed churches and the people anxious to express their joyful alleluias. Graces abounded!

Each person in the state of grace is also a temple of the Holy Spirit.

We, too, if we keep our souls "decorated" by regularly approaching the Sacrament of Reconciliation and by making time for prayer and reflection, can bring love and hope to our brothers and sisters in the greater community. We can only give away that which we have ourselves. We can help others realize how much they are loved by God only if we accept that reality ourselves. It starts with a healthy self-respect because we know that we are loved by God.

Our gospel today speaks of that love of God, namely, "He does not ration his gift of the Spirit." (John 3:34) The gospel goes on to state that "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains upon him."
