Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
April 14 A..D. 2010
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Psalm 34:2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9
A reflection on today's Scripture:
And this is the verdict,
that the light came into the world,
but people preferred darkness to light,
because their works were evil. (John 3:19)
Plese read the verse above more than once, and then reflect on it a bit.
Do we realize what a terrible accusation against us this is from our Lord?
True? Absolutely true!
It was true in Jesus' time and it is still true today.
Here are some examples:
We make what appears to be honest business deals, but we know in the darkness of our minds that the accounting is not exactly correct.
We profess fidelity to our spouses but it seems we find it much too easy to click on the web site that contains "adult content" when we are alone in the darkness of our room.
We go through the TV channels late at night while everyone else in the house is asleep and we pause on the channels we really should not look at while we sit in the darkness of our homes.
We openly lie about countless things because we believe the truth is buried so deep in the darkness of details that no one will ever know the difference.
We fail to give to our churches, give to the poor, clothe the naked, feed the hungry and support the many charities because the true balance of our bank accounts are securely hidden behind the darkness of privacy where no one else can see.
This list could go on and on. But we fool ourselves because no matter how dark the place we try to hide our sins, they are never hidden. God knows and sees everything. He is the light and where He is, nothing is hidden or secret.
