A reflection on today's Scripture:
Developmental theorists have documented what parents have known throughout time, in that we, as humans, have many needs and that they change as we get older. They include the basic needs of food, clothing, shelter and love, among other factors.
When we are children, our parents struggle to meet these needs and as we mature we do that for ourselves. Some parents help their children to develop spiritually, while others do not, for a variety of reasons. Unfortunately, many children are unaware that their Creator is always available to them. The gospel of today makes reference to that availability. (see Matthew 7:7-12)
Christ urges us to seek Him and ask for what we think we need. That is quite an offer! One result of our reaching out often in prayer is that we may perceive our needs differently. As we become more like Christ we may see things through His eyes. We might even become brave enough to ask Christ that He give to us what He perceives we need!
