A reflection on today's Scripture:

A Pastor's Prayer

"They scurried about the surrounding country and began to bring the sick in on mats to wherever they heard he was." (Mark 6:55)

O Lord, I am scurrying about. . . .

Yes, I scurry with lists of things to do and obligations to meet and family to attend to.
I scurry.

Help me to understand that prayer can be like that.

A scurrying about to gather up the intentions and needs of those I love,
of the prayer chain list,
or the prayer intentions in the parish bulletin,
of crisises described on the news,
and problems quietly passed on to me. . . .

You welcome me to bring all sorts of people's needs to You, O Lord,
as those folks brought the sick on mats,
and in their name asked for You to pass by.

It is a big act of faith.
I don't always have to have the supplications organized, do I?

I can pray on the fly, can't I?
Is it ok to say "Help me, Lord?"
"Please, Lord, help this person."
I understand You don't move among us now as then, and that the tassel on Your cloak is not visible, but I think I understand the same spirit on our part is a source of healing - to trust You.

As St. Faustina taught: "Jesus, I trust in You."

I thought that to "pray without ceasing" required a kind of monastic life.
But no, I can pray without ceasing even as I scurry about,
bringing all to You,
and trusting You in all.
"O Jesus, I trust in You."
