Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
January 26 A..D. 2010
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
2 Timothy 1:1-8 or Titus 1:1-5
Psalm 96:1-2a, 2b-3, 7-8a, 1
A reflection on today's Scripture:
In the First Reading for today, St. Paul exhorts Timothy (and future disciples) to "bear your share of hardship for the Gospel."
It still always amazes me that God, who can do anything and everything, chooses to have suffering and hardship as part of the equation for eternal happiness.
It certainly demonstrates that God's ways are not our ways!
I see evidence of this and even God's manifold wisdom as I reflect on how overindulgence without any accountability or responsibility has run many a person, family, culture and country amuck.
So it is that hardship and sacrifice, difficult as they may be, are necessary, not only for the sake of the Gospel (which is, after all, The Word of Life), but for happiness in this life and forever more.
