Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

January 12 A..D. 2010

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

1 Samuel 1:9-20
1 Samuel 2:1, 4-5, 6-7, 8abcd
Mark 1:21-28

A reflection on today's Scripture:

Recently it seems, I have found the Responsorial Psalms a wonderful aid in meditating on the Word of God. The short little phrases seem to settle easily into my head. As they play over and over, I find myself discovering what it means to ponder the Word of God.

Today the phrase that catches and holds my attention is:
My heart exults in the Lord,
my horn is exalted in my God.
I have swallowed up my enemies. (1 Samuel 2:1)

I don't normally think of having enemies and yet when I think about it, I realize I am surrounded by enemies who are vying for my soul. Lurking around in disguise they wait to entrap me.

Let me rethink what I said earlier. I do have enemies!

But, I have a bigger and greater Friend, One who saves me, leads me, guides me and protects me.

Yes, indeed:
My heart exults in the Lord,
my horn is exalted in my God.
I have swallowed up my enemies!
