Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
1 John 4:19–5:4
Psalm 72:1-2, 14 and 15bc, 17
A reflection on today's Scripture:
As children we were fascinated to watch the ripples after dropping a stone into a body of water. Once we are grown, we have an understanding of the "ripple effect" as we move about our daily routine.
In the gospel of today, Christ demonstrated a significant concept for us in that He chose to start His public ministry in His hometown of Nazareth. We too have the challenge of day-to-day interaction with others in our households and community. We are to take Christ into those settings by our behavior, our interactions with others. They learn from us and we from them.
One cannot underestimate the significance of every small act of kindness over a period of time. Though our actions are generally accepted, they might not always be, but that was also the experience of Christ. Our responsibility is to persevere with Christ, our Rock, as the source of our actions.
