Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
January 1 A..D. 2010
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Psalm 67:2-3, 5, 6, 8
A reflection on today's Scripture:
When eight days were completed for His circumcision, He was named Jesus, the name given Him by the angel. (see Luke 2:21)
On New Year's Day, what one blessing, if it came to fruition, would make the most astonishing impact on the world?
Most would say, "Peace."
"Peace" as some have said, "is not necessarily the absence of war."
I would say, the ability to find tranquility even in the throes of war, could be called peace, inner peace.
Shall we not then long and work for world peace, the absence of war? Yes of course, but also for inner peace, the peace the world cannot give.
"For a child is born to us . . . upon His shoulder dominion rests. They name Him Wonder-Counselor . . . Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:5)
