Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
December 31 A..D. 2009
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
1 John 2:18-21
Psalm 96:1-2, 11-12, 13
A reflection on today's Scripture:
As another year draws to a close we ponder all that has happened in our lives and look ahead to 2010.
The gospel reading for today almost startles us with its directness. It is the beautiful gospel of St. John which reminds us "That in the beginning was the Word. . . ." It is a reminder at the end of the year that God was always there for us and will be until the end of time. And to make an even better ending to the year, we start the year tomorrow with the feast honoring our Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God. She is the mother of us all, given to us by Christ from the Cross.
What better way to conclude the year than the reminder that God always was and always will be and that He loves us eternally. We place ourselves under His protection and that of our Blessed Virgin Mother, and so we step forward in faith!
