Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

October 20 A..D. 2009

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Romans 6:12-18
Psalm 124:1b-3, 4-6, 7-8
Luke 12:39-48

A reflection on today's Scripture:

We always think we will have time, don't we? Time to do the myriads of things we have put off.

To be sure we can't do everything we might want or think we need to get done, but we do have the time -- we really do -- to do what will secure our salvation.

Even though death may come like a thief and catch us unprepared in some arenas, it can't catch us unprepared for heaven if we do two simple things: love God and love our neighbor.

Getting to heaven is not meant to be hard. God has not created us for failure expecting that only a few will make the grade. Instead, He made everyone for Himself and the desire of His heart is that none, yes, none be lost.

So keep it simple and use your time well, loving God and loving your neighbor. Not by doing necessarily extraordinary things, but just simple ordinary little things -- with extraordinary love!

"You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come." (Luke 12:40)
