Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Genesis 44:18-21, 23b-29; 45:1-5
Psalm 105:16-17, 18-19, 20-21
A reflection on today's Scripture:
In today's gospel reading, Jesus sends His apostles out to declare that the kingdom of God had arrived. In His instructions He tells them, "Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give." He had given them the power to heal, raise the dead, and drive out demons, and for doing this they were to ask for nothing. The powers were free gifts from God and they were to be shared freely.
This has relevance for us today. Like the Apostles, we too are to freely give what God has freely given us. He has given us perfect, unconditional love, complete forgiveness for our sins and shortcomings and hope in an eternal peace, just to mention a few. We, in turn, are to give others our perfect and unconditional love, complete forgiveness and our peace. In no way can we, or should we, expect to profit from what we have been freely given.
It is my firm belief that the more we give of what we have been given, the more the Father will give to us. Take a few moments and list what you have freely received and commit to freely giving, from this day forward.
