Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

June 29 A..D. 2009

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Acts 12:1-11
Psalm 34:2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9
2 Timothy 4:6-8, 17-18
Matthew 16:13-19

A reflection on today's Scripture:

Who do you say I am? (see Matthew 16:15)

Indeed, who do we say Jesus is? Not with our lips, not with our minds, but by our actions. What do our actions tell others about who Jesus is? Because it is by our actions that others will either come to know Him or stay far from Him.

When we are harsh, judgmental, cruel, vindictive, self-absorbed, or otherwise advertising our humanity, we are also making a statement about Jesus, because we profess to follow Him. What do our actions say about our love for Him?

If we look in the mirror for a moment or look at our actions, we may see much that we do not care for. If so, now is the time to say to Jesus, "Who do I say You are?" And then to ask Him to help us say something else to help us change our hearts and our actions so that we can say, "Jesus Christ is Lord Lord of love, Lord of life, Lord of hope, Lord of gentleness."

Let's no longer hide behind words, disguising from ourselves what we really say about Jesus instead, let our hearts be transformed by Him to speak only the truth about Him in love and to speak it in actions that show that love.
