Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
June 19 A..D. 2009
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Hosea 11:1, 3-4, 8c-9
Isaiah 12:2-3, 4, 5-6
Ephesians 3:8-12, 14-19
A reflection on today's Scripture:
Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, to recognize the love of Jesus for us which culminated with the piercing of His heart at His crucifixion. It is a love that is ongoing. He loves us as much today as the day He died for us on the Cross.
The word "Love" has become distorted and misunderstood in our secular age, often limiting the meaning to superficial, lustful sexuality. Christ modeled the purest form of love, that love demonstrated by sacrificial giving of oneself. That does not mean if we follow His example that we would lose our very life for others, but rather that we go out of our way to be kind and loving toward all. It is a simple message, and one that Christ repeated and demonstrated over and over again during His ministry on earth.
Today let us ponder that message of Christ that we love and care for one another.
