Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
June 15 A..D. 2009
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
2 Corinthians 6:1-10
Psalm 98:1, 2b, 3ab, 3cd-4
A reflection on today's Scripture:
Give to the one who asks of you. . . .
Jesus asks us to be openhearted, as openhearted as He was. He asks us to give to the one who asks of us, whether that one is a friend or not -- to give and not to think about ever seeing a return on that investment. Giving with a generous heart is a human sign of God's love -- constantly poured out upon us, whether or not we deserve it.
God's generosity to us knows no bounds, and He asks that our generosity to others know no bounds. We are to accept the reprimands and demands of those who cannot see God and we are to welcome the difficulties they impose -- not because the difficulties are good, but because by our example, we can show the world the One who truly is good. When we act as Jesus asks us, we transform the world one person at a time. When we love with the heart of Jesus, the heart that asks nothing in advance and only love in return, we are being Christ's hands and heart to the world.
