Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
June 10 A..D. 2009
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
2 Corinthians 3:4-11
Psalm 99:5, 6, 7, 8, 9
A reflection on today's Scripture:
Sometimes I have an awful time trying to reiterate in my own mind what Holy Scripture is saying. It makes me crazy because I don't want to interject my own biases and make the message anything other than what it is: the truth.
Today's two readings are just such a case. They are talking, (I think), about how to reach everlasting life. St. Paul talks about the Spirit and Jesus talks about the Law. At first they seem to be opposed to one another and unraveling the language; like complicated.
In the end, two words remain: law and spirit, but not just any law or any spirit, but The Law, and The Spirit . . . The Holy Spirit.
Until our fallen nature is motivated by Love, we will be obligated by the Law. It's about being filled with the Holy Spirit so that the essence of all our activity isn't about laws, but about love.
