Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
June 9 A..D. 2009
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
2 Corinthians 1:18-22
Psalm 119:129, 130, 131, 132, 133, 135
A reflection on today's Scripture:
We are reminded in Paul's second letter to the community of Corinth that because God is faithful to us, we seek to give a solid and single-minded "Yes" in return to God. But often our "Yes" means "Maybe. . . ." The process of growth and conversion into deeper faith is a process of purification of heart, mind and spirit.
Becoming light to the world, as Jesus is Light, means dying to the many false selves that surface in our lives, each bidding for attention and accommodation. It is Jesus, the Living Word, who penetrates the surface of our lives to help us to discern what needs pruning and what needs nurturing.
Reason without Spirit cannot accomplish this discernment and conversion. Only God can empower our "Yes" to be more and more single-hearted and pure. Perhaps only in heaven will we enjoy the glorious treasure of singing our resounding, perfect "YES" to the one and only Lord who is worthy of all honor and glory.
