Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
June 5 A..D. 2009
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Psalm 146:1b-2, 6c-7, 8-9a, 9bc-10
A reflection on today's Scripture:
Today's readings focus on heritage. Tobias speaks of his father, and Jesus is speaking about David.
Genealogy has become quite popular recently with ready access provided by the internet and the heightened interest in genetics. We might also give some consideration to our own spiritual heritage. How far back can we trace the roots of our own faith . . . and who were the key figures for passing it on to us? How are we doing as a member of our faith family tree in passing along our precious gift of FAITH?
Other questions that we might ask of ourselves could include:
1. What is my date of baptism? It is the date I became a Christian.
2. Who were my sponsors in Baptism and Confirmation?
3. What was the name that I chose for my Confirmation?
It is important for us all, to reflect on the significance of these and other questions in our "faith journey."
