Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

June 1 A..D. 2009

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Tobit 1:3; 2:1a-8
Psalm 112:1b-2, 3b-4, 5-6
Mark 12:1-12

A reflection on today's Scripture:

A man planted a vineyard. . . . (Mark 12:1)

The point of this parable is to show Jesus in the light of who He really is; however, the loveliness of this parable comes from applying the imagery to whom we are as the people of God. We are the vineyard God planted, expecting produce, expecting all the while a rich harvest.

We might not always deliver on that promise; we may sometimes be like the corrupt vineyard keepers, depriving God of His rightful allotment. But most often, we are the vineyard in dormancy.

Hear the word of God and blossom. Listen to what Jesus teaches and burst into full fruit. Become what God has already made you in the sacraments. Fear neither the light of day nor the dark of night, but know that God has set guardians over His vineyard, and ultimately, He will come to claim and protect what is His own.
