Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
May 28 A..D. 2009
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Acts 22:30; 23:6-11
Psalms 16:1-2a and 5, 7-8, 9-10, 11
A reflection on today's Scripture:
In today's gospel reading we hear the wonderful prayer that the Lord gave at the Last Supper in the presence of His disciples. In this prayer our Lord prays not only for His disciples, but for us as well, those He said who believe in Him because of the disciples' words. Jesus knew that His word would be spread across the world through the work of His disciples, although He also knew they would deny Him and hide in fear after His death and resurrection. The seed of love He planted in them was so strong, it would overcome all obstacles.
His prayer for us is that we too experience this great love. And with that love we become one with Him, as well as with all Christians across the world and across time. As we hear the words of this prayer we must ask ourselves if we are truly united with our brothers and sisters in Christ. If not, we must look within ourselves for the reasons and let the love He so freely received from the Father and so freely gave to us, do its work.
