Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Psalm 2:6-7, 8-9, 10-11ab
A reflection on today's Scripture:
Jesus is always concerned about us!
Today's gospel, commonly referred to as the "Last Supper Discourse," demonstrates this love and concern. Jesus knew that this would be His last chance before His death to reassure and teach His apostles. He started by saying, "Do not be troubled." (see John 14:1) How often do we allow ourselves to be reassured by recalling that statement? It is one that we could say many times a day.
Christ then went on to say that He was going to prepare a place for us, that in His Father's house there were several dwellings. If our earthly father promised that he was preparing a place for us on earth, wouldn't we believe him? Why would we then have any doubts about such a promise from the God who made the entire universe? It is a beautiful gospel to use as a basis for meditation, one that can leave us reassured and at peace.
