Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Psalm 87:1b-3, 4-5, 6-7
A reflection on today's Scripture:
Jesus answered the Jews, "I told you and you do not believe.
The works I do in my Father's name testify to me.
But you do not believe, because you are not among my sheep." (John 10:25-26)
In John's Gospel today, we hear a strong message from Jesus. The Jews are looking for further confirmation that He is the Christ and He responds with the above words. Jesus also tells us today, "My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me."
The Gospel today is one of both comfort and challenge. We are blessed if we believe we are the sheep touched by the power of the Holy Spirit and the presence of Jesus in our lives. Yet each day we encounter others who do not know Jesus. Even in the most extraordinary or miraculous circumstances, they will not recognize Jesus' presence. It brings to mind that those who truly follow Jesus are called through the power of God's grace . . . through some event or some divine experience. One comes to "know" the presence of Jesus not through a conscious, rational decision but more a deep awareness in the depth of our soul.
So today, let us truly be God's instruments, and pray for those close to us who are nonbelievers to be touched by the presence of the Holy Spirit, so that they may come to "know" Jesus in a way that leads them to greater truth and wholeness.
