Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
April 22 A..D. 2009
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Psalm 34:2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9
A reflection on today's Scripture:
For many years now I have thought how wonderful it would be to take time off during the week or two just after Easter, not for a vacation as many people in the North East U.S. do, but to have time set apart to think about all the events that culminated with the Resurrection of Jesus and what happened in the days that followed.
Regardless of how we manage to arrange some quite space and time, doing so is what matters. How else then, will we be able to insert the Easter events into our own lives as did the early followers and believers of Jesus?
Will the days just whiz by without us being at all changed by the Sacrifice and Resurrection of Jesus? Hasn't our faith and how we practice it, changed? Has our love for others and the service we are are willing to exert on their behalf changed?
If it hasn't then we haven't been paying enough attention; we haven't let the Gospel message sink in.
It isn't the fault or responsibility of the message or the Messenger, but that of the recipient -- of you and of me.
Please make a little time to read a bit of Holy Scripture Readings during these days of Easter joy. See how the apostles and disciples were changed. Wouldn't you like a change; wouldn't you like to be changed?
When we began Lent there was a song, "Change My Heart This Time," that I referred to. Think about it again. It's not too late. Let's change our hearts this time; with God's grace, His love and your cooperation, it can be!
Change our hearts this time, your word says it can be.
Change our minds this time, your life could make us free.
We are the people your call sets apart.
Lord, this time change our hearts.
