Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
April 8 A..D. 2009
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Psalm 69:8-10, 21-22, 31 and 33-34
A reflection on today's Scripture:
Have you ever been opposed, been given a hard time when all you intended was for goodness to prevail?
If you have not, it is only a matter of time. Like the Master, all true disciples of Jesus are opposed, their thoughts and actions running against the grain of "conventional wisdom." They are not noted for being suave politicians; they are truth-tellers.
Being opposed, however, does have an advantage. It is an opportunity to test and clarify the purity and worth of any intention or action. It is the opportunity for "refining" what is often referred to in Holy Scripture.
As we hasten toward the celebration of the Passion of our Lord, let us see how Jesus dealt with opposition and used every adverse circumstance to clarify for us His mission, as the price for our eternal life.
May we, like Jesus, not worry about being opposed, but welcome it for the Glory of the Father and the salvation of the world.
"The Lord GOD is my help,
He is near who upholds my right; if anyone wishes to oppose me."
(see Isaiah 50:7 and 8)
