Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
March 27 A..D. 2009
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Wisdom 2:1a, 12-22
Psalm 34:17-18, 19-20, 21 and 23
John 7:1-2, 10, 25-30
A reflection on today's Scripture:
The gospel for today finds Jesus in Jerusalem for the Feast of Tabernacles. He was speaking openly even though the word was out about harm coming to Him. (John 7:25)
Some of those listening to Jesus came to an interesting conclusion, namely that Jesus could not be the Messiah since they knew where He was from. Obviously they were using poor logic in their literal interpretation.
Sometimes in a heated discussion one person might use that expression: "Where are you coming from?" With that, they are not referring to their place of birth, but rather their belief system.
It is a good question to ponder about ourselves during these days of Lent. What is the basis of my belief system? How much do the sacraments and the teachings of the Church serve as a foundation for my identity?
