Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

January 12 A.D. 2009

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Hebrews 1:1-6
Psalm 97:1 and 2b, 6 and 7c, 9
Mark 1:14-20

A reflection on today's Scripture:

The Kingdom of God is at hand. . . . (Mark 1:15)

When should we repent and believe?

Today and every day. Each day as we awake in the morning an appropriate prayer of hope is, "O Lord, I believe, please help my unbelief." In so doing we rededicate ourselves to the truth of the revealed Gospel of the Son of God.

Why should we repent and believe? Because the Kingdom of God is at hand.

Indeed, it is so close by, that when we choose to give up our selfish and listless ways, we can begin to see it. When we begin to see it, the Holy Spirit causes the impulse to grow in our hearts to help to build it. We become coworkers with Christ and the Holy Spirit in bringing about the Kingdom of God the Father here on Earth.

But this task requires daily belief, daily rededication, and daily remembrance of how we fail to make this happen in our selfishness.

So, repent and believe because the Kingdom of God IS at hand and we are its present messengers, assigned to carry the words to our brothers and sisters who have not yet seen or who have seen and forgotten the glory we are invited to participate in.
