A reflection on today's Scripture:
Today is Thanksgiving Day in the United States, a day that offers us, as indeed every day does, an opportunity to recognize how we have been blessed by God and to say, "Thank you."
If we are truthful, we see that any good we have is an unmerited gift from God. To recognize this and to give God fitting praise puts things in their proper perspective.
Among other things, if we have any measure of success or comfort, we recognize it is not just because we are hard working, but because God has given us what it takes to work hard and to have the opportunity to succeed. We acknowledge that everything, big and little, is a gift. Everything!
And now, bless the God of all,
who has done wondrous things on earth;
Who fosters people's growth from their mother's womb,
and fashions them according to his will!
May he grant you joy of heart
and may peace abide among you. (Sirach 50:22-23)
