Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

November 1, A.D. 2008

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Revelation 7:2-4, 9-14
Psalm 24:1bc-2, 3-4ab, 5-6
1 John 3:1-3
Matthew 5:1-12a

A reflection on today's Scripture:

Happy Feast Day!

Yes, today we turn our attention to the saints all the saints!

So, who are the saints? Usually in response to such a question we think of those deceased persons declared saints by the Church, and also perhaps our beloveds and others we have known who, hopefully, are in heaven.

As members of the Church militant, we can pray for those yet waiting entrance into heaven, but there is yet another important role for us; that is to guide, love and protect the saints on earth.

Who are these saints? We have the young who have not yet reached the age of reason, who are incapable of sin. We have the developmentally-challenged and the thousands of elderly bearing the cross of dementia. We have those who cannot speak for themselves due to a change in mental abilities for health reasons, and there are others, too.

Yes, we have the saints right here among us! They have many lessons to teach us if we are willing to listen with all of our hearts. How are we doing at loving, guiding and protecting the saints around us?
