Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Psalm 105:2-3, 4-5, 6-7
A reflection on today's Scripture:
Most of us were probably baptized early in life, and we may have had others speak and act on our behalf in our early years.
For many of us, that great day of Baptism also included wearing special white clothing, sometimes worn before by other members of our family when they were baptized. The Sacrament of Baptism welcomed us into the wondrous family of Christians. We literally put on Christ and as stated in scripture, we are all "one in Christ Jesus." (see Galatians 3:28) Our Baptism Day would have continued with some joyful festivity on the part of our family. But that, however, was probably many years ago.
The Gospel Reading for today is quite short, but right to the point. In it Christ reminds us that hearing the word of God is not enough, but rather, we are to observe it. We need to clothe ourselves thoroughly with Christ by our ongoing education, prayer life, and behaviors, that others will be able to see Jesus the Christ in us.
Yes, being a Christian is a 24/7 identity, not something we do through our actions only one hour or less per week. We might have found out that we are not always so easily accepted in our secular lives because of this Christian identity. Christ warned us about such a possibility, but that's okay. In fact, it lets us know that we are no longer living the ways of the world.
Can each of us truly say that we are a Christian?
Are we really, really, following Christ to the fullest of our potential?
These are questions that we could all give some time to reflect upon.
