Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word: Jeremiah 7:1-11
Psalm 84:3, 4, 5-6a and 8a, 11
Matthew 13:24-30

A reflection on today's Scripture:

Sometimes scripture can seem so remote, so removed from our everyday lives, and then again it is so real, so timely.

Today is such a day as the Church celebrates the Memorial of St. Joachim and St. Anne, parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It places an emphasis on our human linkages, the everyday nature of life! We know very little about these two persons, Joachim and Anne and the particular roles they had with their daughter, but we can be sure that they were very special people, as their daughter would be asked to bear our Redeemer, Christ, the Lord!

Perhaps we might take some time today to reflect on the lives of our own grandparents, and the roles they might have played or are playing in our lives. Statistics reflect that more and more grandparents are taking very major roles in the lives of their grandchildren, even raising them. They could use our prayers and support!

Some of us might not have had the opportunity to know one or both sets of our grandparents, but we can still try to know them through our own research and discussions with family. They can still intercede for us in heaven, and we in turn can pray for them. After all, if it wasn't for them we would not be here!

St. Joachim and St. Anne pray for us!
