Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

June 28, A.D. 2008

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Acts 3:1-10
Psalm 19:2-3, 4-5
Galatians 1:11-20
John 21:15-19

A reflection on today's Scripture:

It has been said many times that life is a dance!

Perhaps we could add to that, by saying that God, through His will provides the music. Our challenge in life is to keep listening for the music and step to the beat!

When all goes as God plans, it is truly a glorious dance, not always a pleasant experience for the dancer (that's us) but we are then truly in the rhythm of life as seen by God for all eternity. Sometimes we know when the dance is going right, when we are 'in step' and sometimes it takes us awhile to realize we are not hearing the music and we're out of step.

Today is the vigil of two pillars of our Church, St. Peter and St. Paul. Though we probably will not measure up to their accomplishments, we might identify with each of them in their struggles to know "how to dance," namely what was God asking of them, and who was God to them--and us, anyway?

St. Paul's life is the story of a man searching for the truth. Despite his sincere attempts, he was really "out of step" even to the point of persecuting Christians. God accommodated his struggles by literally knocking him off his horse. In his subsequent temporary blindness he "saw the light" and entered the "dance." He is known for his conversion of the Gentiles. Through his beautiful letters we have a better understanding of our faith.

We could go on at length about St. Peter, the "Rock," upon whom Christ built the Church. Let us recall that he had his weak moments before the crucifixion, and three times even denied Christ. It was only when Peter and Paul handed their lives over to God that He could work through them. The dance was glorious! It can be the same for us! We just need to listen to the music and dance!
