Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
June 27, A.D. 2008
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
2 Kings 25:1-12
Psalm 137:1-2, 3, 4-5, 6
A reflection on today's Scripture:
In today’s Gospel reading, our Lord cures a leper, but as was usually the case, He tells the man to tell no one about it, but rather go show himself to the priest and do as the Mosaic Law dictated about the cleansing of a healed leper. “That will be proof for them,” Jesus told him. How stubborn and hard-hearted the religious leaders of that day must have been!
They were so wrapped up in the very small intricacies of the laws Moses gave them that they lost sight of the core belief of their faith, which was that God loved them and wanted them to love Him in return. By losing sight of this truth, they completely missed the miraculous that was occurring in front of them, in their effort to do exactly as their law prescribed.
Jesus came to restore our relationship with the Father, to allow us to see once again the love He has for us and to free us from the bondage we were in, so that we could love Him.
