Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

June 14, A.D. 2008

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

1 Kings 19:19-21
Psalm 16:1b-2a and 5, 7-8, 9-10
Matthew 5:33-37

A reflection on today's Scripture:

We hear much in the news and when chatting with friends and family these days about the rising cost of living and its impact on savings for the future! People are really concerned, and perhaps rightfully so.

We don't hear or read much about the inheritance that really matters for eternity—that is our present and future relationship with God.

Psalm 16 in the readings for today reminds us, "You are my inheritance, O Lord!" What an important reminder this is for us in both the good and bad times of our lives. Other concerns we have pale in significance when we think of this.

Often persons coming back to America or Europe from visiting Third World countries comment with surprise about the joy they find in those native persons. Maybe they are joyful because they have their priorities straight, as we say! It is worth thinking about our own priorities as we pray Psalm 16.
