Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

June 5, A.D. 2008

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

2 Timothy 2:8-15
Psalm 25:4-5ab, 8-9, 10 and 14
Mark 12:28-34

A reflection on today's Scripture:

Often the Responsorial Psalm has a way of pulling together the central points made in the Reading and Gospel of the day.

Perhaps because the Psalms are in fact songs, they lend themselves to a pleasant use of words, which weave themselves through our minds as we go about our daily tasks. Like today, the words, "Your ways O Lord make known to me" (Psalm 25) can become like a little song or mantra, calming and focusing our oft-disordered thoughts and actions.

For instance, isnít it true that often our most ongoing challenges involve our trying to authentically imitate the Lordóto know His ways, His will and then to put them into action?

It isnít far-fetched, then, to pray over and over again, "Your ways O Lord make known to me," "Your ways O Lord make known to me."

And donít you think that the Lord, when He hears you praying this again and again, wonít be pleased to reveal to you His ways and share with you grace, a share in His very life, that you may become more like Him? I am sure of it, for Holy Scripture affirms it:

"He teaches the humble his way." (Psalm 25)
