Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

May 28, A.D. 2008

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

1 Peter 1:18-25
Psalm 147:12-13, 14-15, 19-20
Mark 10:32-45

A reflection on today's Scripture:

In today's Gospel, Jesus said something that was probably a shock to His disciples: "Whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of all. For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many." (Mark 10:44-45)

That is the life that Jesus led, that is how He saved us. He allowed himself to be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they condemned Him to death and handed Him over to the Gentiles who mocked Him, spat upon him, scourged Him, and put Him to death, but after three days he rose from the dead. (See Mark 10:33-34)

Saint Peter explained that it is because of this that we are purified and are able to know and love God better. He goes on to encourage us to love one another as Jesus loves usówith a pure heart. It is from this purity of heart that we can be humble enough to love as Jesus taught usóto serve one another.
