Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
April 22, A.D. 2008
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Psalm 145:10-11, 12-13ab, 21
A reflection on today's Scripture:
"Peace I leave with you. . . ."
My peace I give you!
Here Jesus bestows upon the apostles, and subsequently upon all of those who believe in Him and love Him, His gift of peace.
Peace here must be understood as more than the absence of war. Peace here is interior peace, relief from the relentless noise that echoes inside. It is the peace of the still small voice that Elijah heard. It is the peace that comes from forty days in the desert and the peace that results from being loved beyond knowing by a God who cares about us, and what happens to us.
This is His gift to us. Peace, all-encompassing peace, perfect peace. The Shalom. Not merely outside, not merely as in the cessation of hostility, but the peace that comes from being a child of God. We glory in this peace even in the heart of difficulties. This is one of the greatest of God's gifts to us through His son--absolute assurance of His love.
