Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

April 15, A.D. 2008

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Acts 11:19-26
Psalm 87:1b-3, 4-5, 6-7
John 10:22-30

A reflection on today's Scripture:

"My sheep hear my voice;
I know them, and they follow me." (see: John 10:27)

What an encouraging promise!

Those who belong to Jesus hear Him. They hear His voice in the everyday events of life. They don't wait for trumpets from heaven, or revelations of angels, or an engraved invitation. They see Jesus in the poor, in the oppressed, in the happy, in the sullen. They see Jesus in the events of the day and in everything that comes to them from God through His grace.

We are a privileged people and we don't know it. We have shepherds who constantly hearken back to these first words. He did not leave us leaderless, but instead gave us a teaching Church to help us understand God's will as times and societies changed. Sometimes this fallible institution has not done such a good job. But more often, we are shown how the principles espoused by Jesus, the laws He taught and the Love He taught is to be carried out in the world at large.

WE are His sheep, the flock He shepherds and so we can pray daily in the Words of Psalm 23:
"The Lord is my shepherd,
I shall not want. . . . "
