A reflection on today's Scripture:

How can one reflection do any justice to the total meaning of this special day, Holy Saturday!

The liturgical celebration encompasses all of creation and salvation history in one evening. Perhaps we can comment on the words of Christ to Mary as she encountered Him in the garden after He had left the tomb. Christ said to her "Do not be afraid." (Matthew 28:5)

Those are words meant for us also, as they have come down to us over time. Christ repeated those words several times to His disciples before His ascension to the Father. Christ's message is always simple and direct—love God, love your neighbor and do not be afraid.

We tend to make His messages complicated and sometimes lose the main points in the translation. Being a good Christian is not easy, but it is not complicated!

Easter blessings to all!
