Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

March 5, A.D. 2008

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Isaiah 49:8-15
Psalm 145:8-9, 13cd-14, 17-18
John 5:17-30

A reflection on today's Scripture:

Our actions, in part, are dictated by what we determine as a priority.

We have always been God's priority, for the Lord said

"Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb? Even should she forget, I will never forget you." (see: Isaiah 49:15)

In the New Testament it is even more obvious how much we are a priority to God. Jesus the Son of God came to this Earth in human form. Being in such a state he was susceptible to all things that we are, but this didn't stop him from carrying out his mission, putting love first. God is love and it is by loving and seeing others sharing their love with one another that we are able to see God. Jesus knew this and this is why He performed miracles, to show God's love for us.

In today's Gospel reading Jesus has just shown God's love through a miracle of curing a crippled man. We see the interrogation that Jesus receives from the Pharisees; they have judged Him for doing something unlawful against the Sabbath, for working. Jesus then explains that it is not for them to judge but for Him alone.

This is a very important message, that God the Father and therefore Jesus His Son and the Holy Sprit have perfect love. This perfect love enables them to fully understand why we do what we do and to know what exactly we need and what we don't need.

We are still learning how to love perfectly as Jesus has shown us, but we are not there; therefore if we judge someone, then we are forgetting about loving them because we will focus on the wrong and not the possibility of how great that person could be. Jesus asks us to believe in Him, to love and forgive one another. This is our priority; God will take care of the rest.
