Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

December 25, A.D. 2007

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Isaiah 9:1-6
Psalm 96: 1-2, 2-3, 11-12, 13
Letter of Paul to Titus 2:11-14
Luke 2:1-14

A reflection on today's Scripture:

Hodie Christus Natus Est . . .
(see today's Responsorial Psalm, the response: Luke 2:11)*

It little matters how you say it — "Il est ne, le divin enfant" — or "Christ is born today." The message is eternal and complete.

We rejoice in the words of the Bible and the words of Handel, "For unto us, a child is born, unto us a son is given." "And the government shall be upon his shoulder and he shall be called, wonderful. . . counselor. . . the mighty God. . . the everlasting Father. . . the Prince of Peace."

Never forget this, the greatest of all possible gifts. Never forget the one meaning anything at all has—for it comes from the one light that shines from the one birth for all. The angels trumpet today in celebration of His birth—the entire heavenly host calls out and sings. And we join them!

Praise God, hallelujah—Jesus Christ, our Lord, our God, our Friend, and our true Counselor is born this day. He is born each day anew in our hearts as we allow it to happen.

And so, let all the world know the good news. Jesus has come for all and welcomes all to Him.

Hodie Christus natus est:

Gloria in excelsis Deo, alleluia.
