Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

December 18, A.D. 2007

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Jeremiah 23:5-8
Psalm 72:1-2, 12-13, 18-19
Matthew 1:18-25

A reflection on today's Scripture:

He will save His people from their sins . . . .

The Annunciation to Joseph comes in a dream and heralds this week as a time when we turn from reflection on the plight of the people of Israel as they awaited the coming of the living God to the time we await the celebration of His birth and His coming into our lives.

No life has light that is not the light of Christ. His birth is the source of all light. From that moment in time, light shone forward and backward through all of time to illuminate how much God has loved us and cared for us.

In the birth of the Lord Jesus, in the tender gift of the Incarnation, we are given for all eternity the best and the brightest of gifts—the truest, the most valuable and most needed Gift. In this birth, all of earth revels in The Light of the universe—The Light that shows us the truth of eternity. And now we wait for it patiently—knowing that The Light is already with us, yet holding our breath as we await the day, the beauty of that evening, the holiness of that night.
