Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
December 15, A.D. 2007
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Sirach 48:1-4, 9-11
Psalm 80:2ac and 3b, 15-16, 18-19
Matthew 17:9a, 10-13
A reflection on today's Scripture:
During this season of Advent we consider our own preparation for the final coming of Christ at the end of time and also anticipate the celebration of the birth of Christ, our Savior.
One is tempted, when thinking about the redemption of mankind, to focus primarily, or even solely on the person of Christ. Today's readings remind us that many people throughout history had key roles in the long process leading up to our own salvation.
Have you ever considered that you might be a "key player" in the salvation history of another person?
The mission of the Church is ongoing, and the need for informed, motivated, spiritual persons never ends. Sometimes big things happen spiritually in someone's life by the example, encouragement, and suggestions from another. It is something to ponder as we move along toward Christmas.
We too, follow the example of the shepherds, the Wisemen, St. John the Baptist and many others. We all have a role to play in salvation history!
