Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

December 6, A.D. 2007

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Isaiah 26:1-6
Psalm 118:1 and 8-9, 19-21, 25-27a
Matthew 7:21, 24-27

A reflection on today's Scripture:

Yet again, Holy Scripture gives us the formula for salvation and effective evangelization.

The Sacred texts tell us, we must listen to and act upon the Word of God, not one or the other, but both: listen and act.

I am sure you can identify times when you have heard something important and didn't act upon it, and at another time you did something without having the proper information. In both cases, the outcome could not have been realistically predicted and if by grace the result was good, you might have rightfully considered yourself blessed.

When it comes to our salvation—and that of the world—let's not take chances, but do what is prudent and possible. Let us listen to the instructive Word of God and act upon it too, with all the resources within our reach.

For then, life won't be like playing a game of chance, but an adventure—not just in the possibility of success—but a guarantee of ultimate success—the reward of everlasting life!

Not everyone who says to me, "Lord, Lord,"
will enter the Kingdom of heaven,
but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven,
who listens to these words of mine and acts on them.
