Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
November 26, A.D. 2007
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Daniel 1:1-6, 8-20
Daniel 3:52, 53, 54, 55, 56
A reflection on today's Scripture:
We've all heard the question and entered into the discussion about how much to put into the collection basket on Sundays.
It is a rather curious concept anyway, in that the question might be rephrased to ask, "How much have I been given by God, and shouldn't I give Him my all?" We also should give back to God more than money; we should give of ourselves. The poor widow in the Gospel of today understood that concept.
Years ago, when visiting a center for the developmentally challenged, I noticed a middle-aged man standing on the front lawn looking up at the sky. I watched him for a few moments and inquired about him. He had been fondly nicknamed something that reflected his happy face. I was told that he spent every day cheerfully waiting to see the face of God! It was a stirring story, and one that I recall often.
So, I ask myself, "How much am I looking for the face of God?" That man had a beautiful vocation of giving honor to God. He was giving God his all, a gift that has for years served as a motivator for me and undoubtedly has helped others as well!
