Every day, we need to go to our quiet place...

Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:

November 1, A.D. 2007

Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:

Revelation 7:2-4, 9-14
Psalm 24:1bc-2, 3-4ab, 5-6
1 John 3:1-3
Matthew 5:1-12a

A reflection on today's Scripture:

Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God. (Matthew 5:8)

To see God is to love God. Out of love, God calls us to be His children and out of love we respond and become His children. Saint John the Evangelist in his first letter expands that it is by keeping this faith, this love with us, that ensures us that "everyone who has this hope based on God, makes himself pure, as God is pure." (see 1 John 3:3)

It can be difficult to keep this hope, especially when things go wrong and when we feel completely alone. There have been generations before us who have gone through problems of their own and many have come out triumphant. They kept the hope, they believed in God's promise of salvation to us through Jesus Christ, and they lived their lives in accordance with this hope of salvation. They have become the choir of saints, they "are the ones who have survived the time of great distress; they have washed their robes and made them white in the Blood of the Lamb." (Revelation 7:14) They are with God and therefore they are also with us.

Let us pray on this Solemnity of All Saints that we too may live our lives triumphantly in God's love.
