Today's Scriptural Meditation Readings:
Octomber 6, A.D. 2007
Scripture from today's Liturgy of the Word:
Baruch 4:5-12, 27-29
Psalm 69:33-35, 36-37
A reflection on today's Scripture:
Nevertheless, do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice because your names are written in heaven. (Luke 10:20)
Within these words spoken by the Lord to His disciples, lies a very forceful lesson. The gifts God gives us are very powerful as the disciples learned and throughout the ages many Christians have been granted great gifts that allowed them to do many things. Some could cast out demons, others could heal the sick and still others brought great teachings. It seems the powers that God has given His people are sometimes without bounds.
But these are all minor things when compared with the single gift we have all received: our salvation and our names written in heaven! As Jesus points out, and as many saints have echoed through nearly two thousand years, the sacrifice He made for us and our subsequent eternal relationships with the Creator are a gift that rises above all others.
Rejoice today, my friends, in this wonderful gift we have been given!
